Services & Collaboration
From biodiversity studies and mangrove planting and restoration to community work, monitoring and adaptive management.
Biodiversity studies & monitoring
Field surveys of flora, fauna, coral reefs and water quality, supporting companies’ PROPER data and reporting needs (PROPER is Indonesia’s corporate environmental performance rating). Data and study results belong to the programme owner.
- Biodiversity studies and ecological baselines: flora, fauna, coral reefs and water quality
- Periodic biodiversity monitoring
Mangrove planting & rehabilitation, coastal & terrestrial restoration
Mangrove planting and rehabilitation, and restoration of other ecosystems, that start from site-suitability assessment and adjust interventions to natural dynamics based on objectives, indicators and monitoring results.
- Site-suitability and restoration-opportunity assessment
- Planning and delivering mangrove planting and rehabilitation, including for corporate CSR and PROPER programmes
- Coastal and terrestrial ecosystem restoration, including site trials
- Post-restoration monitoring and adjustment of interventions
Community support
Working with the communities who live in and around each site.
- Facilitating community institutions and shared area management
- Developing alternative livelihoods for communities
- Environmental education, ecological literacy and training
How we work
- ScopingDiscussing programme objectives, site and reporting needs.
- Site assessment & baselineSite-suitability assessment and a baseline of biodiversity and physical conditions: elevation, hydrology, substrate, water quality.
- Intervention designDesigning the intervention with objectives and indicators that can be monitored.
- Delivery with communitiesField delivery together with local community groups.
- Monitoring & adjustmentPeriodic monitoring, adjusting the design when results fall short of objectives.
Typical deliverables are a study report with baseline data, an intervention design with its indicators, and periodic monitoring reports. Data and study results belong to the programme owner. All our programmes to date are in East Java: Gresik, Bangkalan, Sumenep and Bojonegoro.
Frequently asked questions
Do you support companies’ PROPER requirements?
Yes. We provide biodiversity studies and monitoring for PROPER data and reporting.
Who owns the data and study results?
The programme owner. We only publish results with the owner’s permission.
Is mangrove planting success measured by seedling numbers?
No. We assess whether ecosystem function recovers: hydrology, vegetation cover, species composition and habitat connectivity. Planting sites are chosen through a site-suitability assessment.
Do programmes involve local people?
Yes. Programmes are delivered with local community groups such as community marine surveillance groups (Pokmaswas) or tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis).
Can researchers and students collaborate?
Yes. Research at programme sites requires the programme owner’s permission. Contact us to discuss topics, data access and permits.
